Abstract
Objectives : Recently, adolescent sexual problems have become a source of increasing social, educational, and political concern in Korea. The positive knowledge and attitude of adolescents in developmental stage is important and essential component in physical. mental, and social health in the adulthood life. This study was attempted to assess the effect of sexuality education program for the 10th grade students on the knowledge and attitude toward sexuality.

Methods : We provided 428 10th grade students in 3 high schools in Boryung city of Chungnam province with sexuality education monthly from May to December 2000. A questionnaire survey for these students was conducted before and after the education to assess the change of knowledge and attitude toward sexuality.

Results : Most of the students had a high level of knowledge about biological aspects of sexuality and positive attitude about sexuality. But they had poor knowledge in contraception and sexually transmitted diseases. Knowledge about sexuality was improved significantly after education but no significant change in the attitude. Level of knowledge was positively associated with positive attitude about sexuality.

Conclusions : This sexuality education program showed a significant effect on the improvement of sexuality knowledge. A continuous and systematic sexuality education program that is designed according to the stage of growth and development of student needs to be implemented because sexuality knowledge is correlated with sexuality attitude.
